Sod increases your property value over artificial turf. It is better for the environment as it
increases oxygen, air quality, and decreases carbon dioxide. Sod is also cooler than rock, bare soil,
artificial turf, concrete, and most flat surfaces. Perhaps the biggest benefit to
sod is how it accents your property and the enjoyment of your yard.
Wait to install sod until May to avoid any late freezes. Depending on freezing weather you can install sod in the fall if you keep it watered during the winter.
Do weed control from spring through fall on your entire property. Seeds anywhere on the property can blow onto the sod and start growing.
Aerate in the spring and fall. Fertilize throughout the growing season with chemicals or natural solutions.
Water early in the morning or late in the evening. Hand water your grass in the winter at least 1-2x's a month when its above 50 degrees. This will help prevent winter kill and give your grass a better start in the spring.
Mow your lawn at least once a week. Depending on the lawn, if you mow it too short the sun could burn it and not mowing enough will damage the roots.
